IntroductionWith increasing advances in technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming more prominent in a variety of fields. The basic concept behind it is, that electrical devices react to changes in the real world without the need for human interaction. Such applications can range from automated lighting or intruder detection in a smart home, to accident detection or quality control in a factory environment. In order to interact with the enviroment, IoT applications collect data via sensors. This data is then processed by (potentially highly complex) processes in the system, which then decides how to react. Common problems for most IoT applications are related to privacy and security. As applications can require data from a wide variety of sensors, large amounts of data of their environment are gathered digitally. Due to this, the machines which process this data are attractive targets for attackers, which can gain a lot of information for malicious purposes. For example, in a smart home, an attacker might gain insights into the living habits, preferences or family situations of inhabitants, or even disable alarm systems for a break in, once a family leaves their house. Problem statementWe are currently developing a system, which increases security for applications processing IoT data. The basic idea for this, is to automatically put parts of the processing into secure compartments, which increases the difficulty and reduces the effect of a system break in. To test the effectiveness of this system, however, an implementation of an IoT application is needed.Task descriptionThe goal of this thesis is to create an IoT application to be integrated into our system. This includes first designing such an application, and then to implement it with actual sensors, which will be acquired as needed.Prerequisites
