Braunschweig University of Technology offers a wide range of interdisciplinary research activities. The Algorithms Group, headed by Prof. Dr. Sándor P. Fekete, until recently part of the Department of Mathematical Optimization, now within the Institute of Operating Systems and Computer Networks in the Department of Computer Science, a vacancy for a computer scientist or mathematician.

We are looking for

a scientific employee / PhD student or postdoc
(TV-L 13, three years),

Researchers will have the opportunity to interact with students in the context of their projects. Pay is according to the German bracket "TV-L 13" (About 2800 Euros gross per month).

The vacancy is in the context of the FRONTS and WISEBED projects. Both are funded from the FP7 of the European Union. They aim at the self-organization and dynamic adaption of networked societies of small artefacts, e.g., mobile sensor or vehicular networks. While the projects have different focii, both require an equally strong commitment to algorithmic research and software development.

We are looking for applicants with an above-average degree in mathematics or computer science (Master's degree or equivalent, e.g. German Diploma, or a PhD), who have a solid knowledge in optimization, algorithms, and programming, as well as an interest in and a capability for a wide range of scientific work (from developing ideas all the way to their practical realization), an open mind for the other activities of our department, and a healthy team spirit.

The successful candidate

  • is proficient in English and can collaborate with partners from many different countries,
  • speaks German, or is willing to learn German, to communicate with the local working group,
  • is proficient in the development of algorithms and data structures,
  • is proficient in object-oriented programming, most preferably C++,
  • can work with different operating systems and knows tools relevant for collaborative software development.

Persons who do not fulfill all of the mentioned qualifications are encouraged to apply, as long as they are willing to improve themselves and learn new concepts.

We are offering an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree and the participation in exciting interdisciplinary projects that span all the way from basic research in algorithms to its practical and technical application. As a member of our group, you will be part of a motivated team that maintains various interdisciplinary and international contacts and activities.

Among applicants with equal qualifications, handicapped persons will be given a preference. The Braunschweig University of Technology is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages women to apply. Because of its project character, none of the positions is suited for part-time employment.
