Open position (m/f/d) in Distributed Systems research group

Open position at Institute of Operating Systems and Computer Networks Distributed Systems PhD student or PostDoc (m/f/d) in our research areas trusted execution, distributed ledger technology and edge computing initially limited for 2 years, EG 13 TV-L (100%)

The research group is focused on system research in the fields of distributed systems and operating systems. Especially the intersection of distributed protocols for scalable agreement and the utilization of novel hardware such as trusted execution is explored. The tasks of the employee comprise work in research and teaching as well as administrative duties, especially help with design, preparation, and execution of research projects. Earning a PhD or habilitation is possible.

We are looking for applicants with an excellent degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields (Master's degree or equivalent, or a PhD), who have a solid knowledge in distributed systems and operating systems related topics.

We are offering an opportunity to work in our motivated, cooperative team and in a creative, dynamic work environment.

The successful candidate

  • has an above-average degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields (Master's degree or equivalent, or a PhD),
  • has knowledge and experience in at least one of the following topics: distributed protocols (i.e., BFT), trusted execution, system runtime environments (i.e., WebAssembly),
  • has very good programming experience using C/C++, Rust or Java,
  • is proficient in English and can collaborate with partners from many different countries,
  • is enthusiastic to learn German,
  • is self-motivated and well-organized, has an open mind for the other activities of our group, and a healthy team spirit.

  • proof of your language proficiency,
  • if you already have a PhD, include a research statement and future career plan.

Depending on your qualification and fulfillment of personal requirements, the remuneration is based on the salary level TV-L E13 (approx. 4000€ - 4600€ monthly before tax). International applicants will need to complete a visa process before hiring can take place. The position is limited, initially for 2 years, with a maximum of 6 years. It is basically part-time suitable but should be 100 percent occupied. Recruitment is planned for 01 October 2021.
