Thanks again for your help.

Running tclsh (whence tclsh = /usr/local/bin/tclsh -> ../pkgs/tcl/bin/tcl7.5)
and executing the load you suggested:

258 [bjb@java.bunyip.com] $ find . -name "*.so" -print
./unix/tnm.so
./unix/tkined.so
259 [bjb@java.bunyip.com] $ tclsh
% load unix/tnm.so

results in

couldn't load file "unix/tnm.so": ld.so.1: tclsh: fatal: relocation error: symbol not found: __ctype_: referenced in unix/tnm.so

Thanks for the pointer regarding memory usage on our machines -
I'll mention it to the higher-ups.

No, we don't have Sparcworks. We tend to do everything with gnu tools.

I'll have to look into the malloc with memadvise.
