Content | OverviewThe ITU defines the Internet of Things (IoT) as "a global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on existing and evolving interoperable information and communication technologies." In this seminar recent scientific publications and related projects from the area of IoT should be summarized and presented. EinzelthemenNr | Thema | Betreuer | M1 | Smart Parking using the IoT | Dr. Dominik Schürmann | | Due to rural migration, it is increasingly difficult to find free parking spaces in cities like Braunschweig. Low-cost, low-power systems could solve this problem by helping the users to detect free spaces using on-site deployments of IoT networks. A different approach is to utilize sensors already existing in mobile phones. In this seminar topic, different methods to detect and manage parking spaces using the IoT should be discussed. Literature research can be started using these three papers presented on IEEE WFIOT conference 2015: - A Visual Sensor Network for Parking Lot Occupancy Detection in Smart Cities Luca Baroffio, Luca Bondi, Matteo Cesana, Alessandro E. C. Redondi and Marco Tagliasacchi (Politecnico di Milano, Italy)
- Crowdsensing Smart City Parking Monitoring Félix J. Villanueva and David Villa (University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain); Maria Jose Santofimia (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Spain); Jesús Barba and Juan Carlos López (University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain)
- A Smart Parking System Based on IoT Protocols and Emerging Enabling Technologies Luca Mainetti, Luigi Patrono, Maria Laura Stefanizzi and Roberto Vergallo (University of Salento, Italy)
| M2 | Will hardening the IoT work? | Martin Wegner | | The IoT is mainly comprised of devices restricted in ressources (computing, energy). Plenty of (still) isolated platforms (co-)exist, spanning a variety of architectures, programming languages, protocols and frameworks. All this regularly leads to incidents with IoT devices and software that significantly impact users' privacy and security. Research (some of) the biggest IoT failures so far, in hardware, software as well as protocols. Analyze how and why these were possible in the first place. Try to derive a set of requirements to avoid them in the future. | M3 | E-Mobility Roaming | Dr. Julian Timpner | | The combination of IoT and e-Mobility enable a networked charging infrastructure, connect drivers with different energy and service providers and promise to facilitate a seamless driving and charging experience. The latter is particularly important to mitigate range anxiety. E-Roaming allows a driver to charge his electric vehicle at charging stations operated by different service providers. To this end, a user-friendly plug-and-charge mechanism has been defined which enables an automatic authentication, authorization and billing procedure for electric vehicles. In this seminar, research and present the relevant protocols and standards and describe solutions for connecting e-Mobility networks. - [1] M. Mültin and H. Schmeck, “Plug-and-Charge and E-Roaming – Capabilities of the ISO/IEC 15118 for the E-Mobility Scenario,” – Autom., vol. 62, no. 4, pp. 241–248, Jan. 2014.

| M4 | Social Internet of Things: How to find the right service? | Robert Hartung | | With the Internet of Things many new services will be available for use. The question is how to discover the correct and most trustful service to be used. The Social Internet of Things (SIoT) proposes a social network-like structure for searching and using services. Research on how to discover services that are for interest for you. You can use the following papers to get an idea of the SIoT: | M5 | Internet of Military Things | Dr. Georg von Zengen | | The internet of things was meant to be a helpful, civil, technology. But it shows that its technology also fits military use cases far too good. Which technologies are most interesting to the military? How war they adopted to the use cases? Is there something civil IoTs can adopt from military ones? | M6 | Energy Efficiency of the IoT | Dr. Ulf Kulau | | Internet of Things (IoT) is innovation in the field of Communication where a number of intelligent devices are involved sharing information and making collaborative decision. IoT is going to be a market-changing force for a wide variety of real-time monitoring applications, such as E-healthcare, homes automation system, environmental monitoring and industrial automation as it is supporting to a large number of characteristics and achieving better cost efficiency. However, what about the 'costs' e.g. energy of the IoT itself? What ist the overhead of running billions of devices? What are the issues and are there possible solutions? |
Ein Beispiel einer Ausarbeitung im PDF-Format: Beispiel-Ausarbeitung DokumenteThe material is only available to registered attendees. In order to register, you need either an IBR account or a self-activated IBR-y-account. Afterwards you can login to this site (with the function at the top of this page).
