In the last years, there have been a trend towards XML and to Web services within the Network Management community. Previous work focussed on the implementation of individual management operations as Web services or on the performance differences between Web services and "traditional" Management using SNMP. Besides easier development of management applications, another important advantage of Web services is supposed to be service discovery. The registry that is needed for service discovery can be centralized (such as UDDI, for example) or distributed (on a peer-to-peer basis). Task: Within this masters thesis, a centralized approach and a distributed approach for a registry database for Network Management Web services have to be investigated and described. Furthermore, security requirements that arise from the managemnt scenario and the use of WS-Security should be discussed. In the practical part, a registry database has to be implemented. The registry should be filled with several elaborated and expressive example services. The implementaion has to be well documented and the design decisions must be justified.
