As usual thanks again a lot for the always quick
replies.............................

I followed your suggestions and I have spend some hours compiling scotty
under HP-Unix B.10.20 (instead of SunOS 5.7), and istrumenting it with purify
(much better than previously using 'top').

NB: I haven't made use of DISPLAY HINTs !!

The result is (even under stress): NO MEMORY LEAKS.

So sorry if I have wasted somehow Your time.

In case I found something I would be happy to be of some help.
