[tkined] Scotty and non-SNMP devices.

Hi everyone,

I'm sure that the question I'm going to post has not a precise and close
answer, but anyway any ideas will be very appreciated. The "little" problem
I have is that the most important device in our network (a custom device by
the way) is not SNMP compliant, and we'd like to get it into tkined&scotty
as we do with the other devices in our network. These other devices are
routers, ups, and of course servers.

Our custom device is connected to the COM port of a router, so that we can
access it by telneting to this port, and issuing then our own commands.
There are propietary operation and maintenance messages that which we get
when something goes wrong, and we can also use custom commands to monitor
and control this device.

Our final goal is to make this device SNMP compliant, with TCP/IP running on
it, and with its own network card and IP address. Therefore we have to
develop our own MIB. Where can I get info about this topic? (I've already
ordered Dave Perkins' book, "Understanding SNMP MIBs"......)

There is a possibility to have a web server running on this device, so maybe
we could use the http(n) command to get the management info.

Did someone face a situation like that? If yes, can you point me to the
appropriate forum, or give me some guidelines, URLs, etc., so I can get any
further?

Any suggestions appreciated.......

Thanks a lot in advance!
