Yes, Sir, I take your point, that this is not a problem with your
software as such. But I can't understand why it is considered an
error at all.

If I issue any normal Internet command with "localhost" as its
target, the command is correctly performed with 127.0.0.1 as its
destination, presumably because /etc/hosts contains the entry

127.0.0.1 localhost

If we ask the DNS server, then I don't see why _it_ would need to
know anything about "localhost".

My colleague states that the network configuration was set up by the
standard setup utility of Digital Unix, he can't think of anything
special about it and is reluctant to change it without a good
explanation of why anything is considered to be wrong or harmful.

May I simply conclude that this reported error is going to be harmless
in practice?
