I recommend using UCD-SNMP instead. It is based on and mostly
compatible with CMU SNMP 2.1.2.1, but uses autoconf (much easier to
install), has a mostly rewritten ASN.1 parser and a MIB repository
directory (so that you can put vendor-supplied MIBs in without any
modifications) and lots of bug fixes.
You can get it from:
ftp://ftp.ece.ucdavis.edu/pub/snmp/
or ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror/ucd-snmp/
