Next Question . . .

OK, it's time for yet another question . . . (thanks again for being so
patient with me). There are several versions to connect with using scotty,
SNMPv1, v2C, and v2U. This question comes in two parts:

a) When connecting to a router, and checking which version of SNMP it
accepts, which order should I be checking in. My gues is v1, v2C, v2U. Is
this a good guess?

b) How does one know if the router being connected to accepts the current
version? Looking at some code examples, it would appear that you setup a
session using that version and then make an SNMP get request. If it fails,
it probably doesn't accept that version. Is there a better way to do this?
For example, what if the router is just bogged down, and the requests
timeout. Then the above algorithm would think the router doesn't accept that
SNMP version, when it really does.

Thanks in advance,
Robert Seeger
