I am sorry, but I am not building an inventory database. The goal
is to have a format which enables management tools to talk to
devices. Wires, connectors etc will probably never talk SNMP and
this is where my interest ends. (I am not saying that keeping track
of wires, connectors, ... is not an important topic. I am saying
that I have no plans to go into that direction.)

I hope that this is more an access control / security problem than a
communication problem. I would like to build "distributed shared
network maps" where a process attaches to a remote map and afterwards
manipulates it as if it were a local, private map. Mapping multiple
network maps (with different permissions) into a single map would give
you what you are looking for. However, I have no idea if this is
really doable in an efficient way and I don't know when I will have
time to work on it. Its safer for you to keep expectations low.
