I believe the below analysis by Dan Razzell is incorrect. The HP Jetdirect
MIB is quite extensive.

The MIB in question is the HPNP MIB.

The requested statuses are found in the gdStatusEntry sequence, and
statuses are an enumerated type

You can also query individually. Use gdStatusPaperState to look for 0
(Normal) or > 0 (problem), gdStatusLineState for 0 (online) >0 (offline),
gdStatusIOActive for the I/O card or gdStatusBusy for the print engine, etc.

Please consult the hpnp mib for all the numerous other things one can do
with the Jetdirect interface (I'm a fan).

HP provides some nice user interactives for print job monitoring as well,
if you configure to use them.
