I am not sure what you mean by "monitoring services". Do you mean
something like the Network Services Monitoring MIB (RFC 1565)?

The simplest way to monitor the availability of DNS or WWW services is
to use them. Make a DNS request and/or a WWW request once in a while
just to check that everything is up and running. If you want to know
more details (e.g. statistics about service usage), than you have to
do some more work. There is an effort to define a WWW-MIB which
started on as a simple mailing list and is now part of the application
MIB working group of the IETF. See http://http-mib.onramp.net/ for
