Yes.

The heart of Tkined is currently rewritten and will become a part of
the Tnm extension. This will enable Tnm scripts to load, save and
manipulate network maps directly. (This allows to write standalone
servers that do all the useful things in the background.)

It will be possible to connect these maps so that all changes in one
map are automatically propagated to all other connected maps. This
will be handled in the C code without an rpc command at the Tcl level.

So the answer is: You will get the remote functions back once these
things are in place. It is unlikely that the rpc command will appear
again. I have no idea how long it will take to implement and debug
these things. (The first parts of the new network map code will be in
2.2.0 but there is still a long way to code.)
