A new version of the scotty package (scotty-2.1.5.tar.gz) is now
available for FTP on ftp.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de [134.169.34.15] in
/pub/local/tkined. This is very likely the last release based on
Tcl7.5/Tk4.1. The changes relative to version 2.1.4 are:

o Tkined should be happy with [incr tcl].
o Tkined has a new optionFlashIcon option.
o The "Trace Route" command of the ip_trouble.tcl script produces
more readable output.
o The name of the Tnm startup file is read from the TNM_RCFILE
environment variable if it exists.
o The GDMO parser now supports "SET-BY-CREATE" properties.
o The -writecommunity SNMP session option is now working.
o Added the rfc2020.mib to the distribution.

The most important changes however are all related to the Windows NT
version of scotty. Version 2.1.5 contains Borland C++ and Microsoft
VC++ makefiles. The Tnm extension supports all commands except the
"icmp" command on Windows NT. Tkined compiles on NT but it is not
really usable right now since event driven pipes are still a problem
on NT. Note, this is not yet the official announcement of a NT version
but I think that it is time to ask people on this list to do
real-world things with it so that I can find and fix the remaining
bugs faster.

I am now starting to work on the 2.2.0 release which will be based on
Tcl7.6/Tk4.2. There will be a couple of changes:

o I plan to remove support for msql. Hakan Soderstrom has released a
new version of his msqltcl package which can be dynamically loaded
by using the `package require' command. Hence, there is no need to
keep a copy of it in the scotty sources.

o I will start to use Tk4.2 dialogs wherever possible.

o The -agent SNMP session option will be removed. A new "snmp agent"
command will be added to create SNMP agent sessions. This will
result in a clear distinction between agent and manager sessions
(which will solve a couple of semantic problems).

o Version 2.2.0 will include a new "map" command which allows to
create and manipulate network maps. This is the first step to make
the core of Tkined available for standalone scripts and it will
allow me to convert Tkined into a client/server application later.
This is work in progress and might change over time.

Stay tuned and have fun with 2.1.5 until 2.2.0 is available. ;-)
