tkined beginner's questions!!!

I have been using Scotty for a while, mainly as an snmp library
for small monitoring tasks.

The only use I made uptonow of tkined had been to draw a few network
diagrams and to print them!!!

Now I would like to investigate more what is possible to do with it.
I looked in the documentation but I can find what I think I want!
Let me try to explain:

* I can generate a ascii (tki) file (via a little program) for
our network showing the various devices and connections (using
information from our central database)

* How do I attach a little process polling periodically all
the nodes (snmp or ntping like I do in scotty) and using the result
to maintain for example the color of the nodes on the map (red:failed
green:ok for a trivial example)???
Should I write an INTERPRETER, how do I start it automatically,
How do I "link" the NODE on the map and in the process (script?)

Looking for example in the clock script example
every procedure has a "list" argument, what is it: the selected NODE
ie you need to select nodes before using a script or what?

Thanks for your answers or pointing me to the right document or
examples related to my problem.

Second question:

When you have a very large network it is not practical to have
a huge map, but you want to navigate between detailed and hierarchy
maps. How do you do that with tkined? in particular in lock editor
mode (if you do not want your operators changing the map contents) ?

Many thanks
Francois
