Just a little comment on speed,
I'm currently experimenting with a commercial package
called Spectrum by cabletron, I can't remember the cost
but its in the thousands. It can take over 4 hours just to
go through a couple of subnets. I think to set it going over our
entire network doing an auto discovery would take days.

These things ARE SLOOOOWW. ;)
