Hello,

I thought I'd let everyone know how I'm getting on with bridged ethernet
functions for scotty.

My original ideas were to automatically generate a pretty picture of the
network. The more I thought about this, the more it seemed that this really
isn't that useful, and so I've concentrated on text-only functions which use
MSQL to facts about the network; reports, graphical interfaces etc can be
based on that. The actual bridge topology (which port is connected to with
lump of cable) needs to be entered manually, but that's not too onerous. I've
also made a cheap'n'cheerful WWW CGI front end for some of the lookup
functions.

It's worth pointing out that vanilla tkined isn't completely useless for those
of us with bridges: the Interface Load option under the SNMP Monitor menu
works on bridges straight out of the box; we've already found this to be
useful in troubleshooting a problem a couple of weeks ago.

I'm a still novice with tcl, and I'm finding that I need to completely
redesign sections of code quite frequently, so I wouldn't be doing the world
many favours by releasing it just now, but version 1beta of the core functions
should happen Real Soon Now.
