===============================================================================

My plan for the getting started guide is as follows.

1) Explaining the basic key and mouse functions, things like file
operations, icons etc.

2) A guided tour on the most _basic_ functions of tkined/scotty. This
will be based on my experiences of using tkined and scotty during the
last 8 weeks. This should enable the user to define a simple
monitoring system without having to spend a lot of time with
configuration issues. The guide will cover the following areas.

a) IP Monitoring (Check Reachability/Round trip time)
b) SNMP Monitoring (Trap receiving)
c) SNMP Monitoring (Querying basic variables and displaying
stripcharts)
d) event monitoring (connectiing to syslogd and defining event
filters)
e) Using rstat to monitor UNIX systems.

The idea is really so that someone starting using the system should be
able to get something up and useable that can show proven benefits in
a _very_ short time (less than a week) before becoming involved in the
more complex setup issues. For that reason (and also for the reason
that I am not the person to do this), I will not be explaining things
like TCL/TL or even SNMP above a superficial level. That should be
left for the User Reference guide.

I have already been contacted by Ken Klatt <kklatt@mikey.mscs.mu.edu>
who has agreed to test the work I do.

A bientot......
