you should configure it to tell it where your X libraries are if
they are not in a standard place. Typically that would be
/usr/openwin/lib

Since you've already done your configure, you can just edit the
Makefile(s) and replace NONE with /usr/openwin/lib.
On, and while your add it, on the same line add this:
-R/usr/openwin/lib:/usr/local/lib
