I've got some scotty patches that let you check on nfs and pcnfs
services if anybody is interested.
specifically: NFS Null operation - just to see if NFS is available

PCNFS:
authentication with username, password, pcname
printer list query
printer queue query
printer status query
pcnfs info query (all available PCNFS services from a machine)

basically they are extensions to the sunrpc modules.
