Yes, this is desirable in network management. There is no support for
this in the scripts contained in the tkined and scotty distribution,
but it is very easy to write scotty script to poll snmp variables and
write them into a file or somewhere else.

A generic package to obtain network statistics must define how you
store statistics (flat files, a database) and how you configure the
polling process. Patrick Weemeeuw has started some work on this,
although he will not have anything for general consumption. You may
