Business Benefits

The specific business benefits depend on the project and are listed in the following section. In general the benefits can be divided into two areas: improved performance via parallelisation (HPC) and improved communication and cooperation (HPN). • DIMASPLL

  
  The DIMASPLL-project parallelised a route-planning software to be used on a multi-processor system. This enables a much faster calculation of routes, reduces costs and increases flexibility. This software-package is already successfully used in the food-industry.

• DISSY

  
  DISSY uses HPCN-technologies to improve personnel planning in public transport, allowing the simulation of various planning scenarios under consideration of social and financial limitations.

• FLOAT

  
  The FLOAT-project tries to predict the water levels of the critical sections of Donau allowing for a more efficient planning of ship loading and scheduling. This reduces the waiting periods, increases reliability, increases average freight volume and therefore reduces costs.

• GROP

  
  The GROP-project parallelised a route planning software for the use on a cluster of PCs/workstations. Therefore no new multiprocessor systems are necessary, as existing PCs in the companies network can be used. A efficient route is calculated without the need to manually pre-plan. This increases flexibility, efficiency and reduces costs. GROP is already in use for the route planning of more than 12 European companies (mainly petrol distributors).

• PARPLS

  
  The PARPLS-project parallelises a route planning for delivery of goods under consideration of intermediate depots for the use on a multiprocessor system (PC). A fast and efficient planning helps to reduce costs and increases customer service. This software is already in use for the delivery of coffee and goods.

• SHOT

  
  The SHOT-project parallises a scheduling software for public transport companies. SHOT enables a efficient and flexible planning of, for example the number of buses required for a estimated number of passengers.

• SIMPYC

  
  The SIMPYC project adapted a flexible planning tool for maintenance companies. The tool allows to optimise the service quality, reduce the displacement costs and minimise the delays to visit the clients. It is formed by two main modules: an efficient planning tool which is able to assign optimally repairing orders to workers, and a mobile communications system which allows each worker to have immediate access to the updated information.
